What Is a Metronome?
A metronome produces regular clicks at a chosen tempo.
In simple terms
Tempo is measured in beats per minute, or BPM. Practising with a metronome helps you play at a steady speed and measure progress accurately.
What BPM means
At 60 BPM, one beat occurs every second. A higher number means a faster tempo; a lower number means a slower tempo.
How to practise with one
Choose a speed at which you can play cleanly. Align each note or chord with the click and increase the tempo in small steps.
What it does not fix
A click reveals timing problems but does not correct technique. Slow down if you tense up, miss notes or lose the beat.
